How to Use the Eisenhower Matrix

  1. Brain-dump every task that is on your mind — add them all before judging them.
  2. Ask two questions per task: Is it urgent? Is it important? Honest answers matter more than fast ones.
  3. Place it in a quadrant. Do First (urgent + important), Schedule (important, not urgent), Delegate (urgent, not important), Eliminate (neither).
  4. Protect the “Schedule” quadrant. That is where your highest-value work lives — block focused time for it.
Tip: Once your “Do First” list is set, start a Pomodoro session on the top task and actually knock it out. Prioritizing is only half the battle — focusing is the other half.

What Is the Eisenhower Matrix?

The Eisenhower Matrix — also called the urgent-important matrix — is a decision framework for sorting tasks by two dimensions: how urgent they are and how important they are. It is named after Dwight D. Eisenhower, who observed that the urgent are rarely important, and the important are rarely urgent.
